By India Today Web Desk: Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa has tested positive for Covid-19, hours ahead of their T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 match against Sri Lanka in Perth. Zampa, it emerged on Tuesday, returned a positive test but is only showcasing mild symptoms, according to a team spokesman.

The Australian team management had maintained that Adam Zampa was available for selection for the big-ticket match against the Asia Cup champions, but he is in doubt after having tested positive for Covid-19, according to cricket.com.au.

If Adam Zampa does not play on Tuesday for Australia, left-arm spinner Ashton Agar is set to take his place in the XI unless Aaron Finch decides to opt for a pace-heavy attack in Perth.

However, the ICC rules for T20 World Cup 2022 do not prevent players with Covid-19 to play matches. Only on Sunday, Ireland cricketer George Dockrell played against Sri Lanka despite having been deemed potentially Covid-19 positive.

Zampa remains a vital cog to Australia’s plans as the leg-spinner has been in fine form. It might be a blow for the defending champions who are heading into the contest against Sri Lanka after having been hammered by New Zealand in their Super 12 opener by 89 runs.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka are likely to welcome back their in-form opener Pathum Nissanka, who missed their opening match in the Super 12 against Ireland due to a an injury concern.
